Worlds 2022 - final day and results

Friday started with a forecast around 4-6 knots in variable direction, so the Open discipline went out at 9h for 2 low-wind races and one in more wind, after the sea breeze started blowing. The Classics waited until 13h30 to go out, so we had only 2 possible races to launch before the 15h00 time limit. The sea breeze was building up and my decision to use the soft battens was somewhat wrong... with the associated upwind pain and downwind rodeo over the crazy chop and cargo waves. Despite the conditions I had great fun riding Black Beauty, the boat chartered from Ben Hall. Speaking of Ben, he was so quick, he's a really good sailor, and beating him require a permanent attention the every detail. Same for other top guns in the Classics discipline, I wonder who can beat Landy, he just goes away and nobody understand how he can get such a speed upwind.

As usual, multiple boat-park discussions occurred during the week, one of it was the wind limits. Some US sailors wanted to reduce it, but after showing them the second part of rule 10.3 "The Race Committee should also take into account the wave conditions to ensure safe sailing conditions", the discussion ended nowhere, except for the formula below that was drafted after too many beers by the pool.

After Punta Ala in 2015, Medemblik in 2016, Sopot in 2017, Hervey Bay in 2018 and Weymouth in 2019, I really enjoyed this championships in Houston, it's always a very special event that require much more than the usual 2-3 days regatta. You and your boat need to be ready and hold the load for one week, or possibly two if you race the pre-regatta, which I recommend to validate your boat and understand the play field.

I hope to convince you to come to the next major events, so I'm not the only sailus helveticus !

Charles
