Swiss Open Championships, after 2 days

Even if the regata was only starting on Sunday, many people already came on Saturday to enjoy the fantastic conditions we have in Silvaplana, Swiss Engadin. The weather is stunning, with day temperatures in the 25+ degrees, something you normaly not see in this heights - remember we are sailing on the altitude of 1'800 meter !

Altough a few good sailors could not make it for the event (notably Sascha Wallmer and Eugenio Calabria), 35 people came to our Open Swiss Championships  to enjoy sailing in this beautiful location.

On Sunday 19.8, the wind was excellent, and even if we only went out on 13h for the first start, we could sail 4 races for each class (Tornado and A-Cat). As the lake is very small, we shores the boats between races, might appear annoying at first, but with the low density of the air, a few sailors are very happy to get some relief between races.

On Monday 20.8, the wind was a bit late to wake up, so we only could run for 3 races before our dinner on the top of the very nice Furtschellas cable car.

This morning 21.8, the nord wind is still blowing when I write this, so it's not clear at all if we will be able to get the famous Maloja wind soon enough to go out and sail the two remaining races left on the program. The latest possible start is 14:00, so it appear a bit short. Nevertheless, we do enjoy the place a lot, and I can only recommend sailors and their family a vacation is this location.

On the result front, we have Bob Baier at top of the list, with 6 bullets and a 4th place. On slot 2, Matthias Dietz and Sergio Vela are both having 32 points, followed by Helmut Sturmhofer who get better with time. However, results will certainly evolve as the "strike" has not been applied yet.

The 2011 swiss champion Hervé du Bois is currently at rank 8, with an expected enhancements, as he does master his new sail better with each race.
